The Sioux Falls Area Running Club (SFARC) has been putting on a 10km/2mi race at Newton Hills (NH) State Park since 2002. As the popularity of that event has grown through the years, as has the sport of “ultra” trail racing, the idea surfaced to have another event, this one catering to those who would like to push their limits a bit more. If you’ve run the 10k before then this event gives you the opportunity to take the next step (literally and figuratively).
This will be the third annual NHU. Join us in 2017 for a great run through Newton Hills State Park (near Canton, SD), one of the jewels of SD state parks,
While the course will probably not change in 2017 there may be some changes in other areas. Keep an eye out for more information and updates as we get closer to race day.
The race starts and ends at the second bridge down the hill near the picnic shelter (see map here ).
The course consists of a 10km loop through the NH trail system. Each race is comprised of the number of loops needed to reach the chosen distance (i.e. 2, 3, or 5 loops). Here's a Google earth kmz file of the course and elevation profile. While South Dakota is generally known for its lack of topography, the Newton Hills trails are anything but flat.
